Katharine Dryer – Asset class lead for equities and multi-asset in the Europe and Asia Client Group – Capital Group
- Veranderende wereldwijde dynamiek

Future Ready Portfolios: Integrating Innovation, Analytics and Strategic Alliances
In a rapidly evolving global landscape, portfolio design and resilience have become more critical than ever. Geopolitical fragmentation, shifting supply chains, and changing market dynamics are reshaping return drivers and challenging traditional diversification. At the same time, investment management is undergoing a fundamental transformation through technology, trading, private markets and advances in data and analytical tools.
Against this backdrop, investors must rethink portfolio construction to ensure that both structural and emerging risks are effectively identified, assessed, and managed.
This session will explore how these macroeconomic and market shifts are reshaping client needs and how investors can evolve their offerings to stay ahead. We will examine the trade-offs between building inhouse capabilities and partnering with external advisors to enhance existing solutions or develop new ones.
The discussion will highlight how modular, flexible toolkits can unlock meaningful value and support more scalable portfolio innovation. We will draw on case studies and explore multiple areas of portfolio design including strategic asset allocation, manager research, tactical asset allocation, and risk assessment that clients are leveraging today to navigate the current global landscape.

Risk Is the Water Portfolios Swim In
A world-class approach to risk is not a compliance function or a one-number solution. It is a value-adding part of the investment process.
Taking inspiration from Amsterdam – a city engineered not to eliminate water, but to live intelligently with it – we will explore what it means to navigate depth, current and storm in today’s markets. Structural uncertainty is no longer episodic. It is ambient. Rates and inflation shift. Geopolitics can reprice assumptions overnight. Technological progress creates extraordinary opportunity while concentrating risk in ways that are not immediately visible.
Risk is not just volatility – it is the shape of outcomes. Traditional risk tools remain necessary, but they are insufficient on their own. An enhanced approach draws on any feature, factor or behaviour of portfolios and decision-making to turn risk from a reporting exercise into a source of insight.
From the world of super-forecasting, the idea of the “dragonfly eye” is a powerful concept. We will consider what it means to see risk through multiple lenses at once—not to predict with false precision, but to understand probabilities, detect concentration before it becomes fragility, and build portfolios that embrace the right risks with conviction.
Emerging technologies are expanding what can be seen, yet human curiosity, uncommon understanding and effective judgement remain a decisive edge. Resilient portfolios are designed by understanding risk deeply enough to use it well.

Probing AI-Driven Asset Allocation Pipelines: What-If Scenarios for Strategic Investment Decisions
As asset owners increasingly integrate AI and machine learning into their strategic asset allocation and asset-liability management processes, a critical question arises: how can decision-makers interrogate, compare, and ultimately trust the recommendations produced by these complex pipelines? This talk introduces a scenario-based framework for explaining and stress-testing AI-driven asset allocation decision pipelines. Rather than treating these pipelines as black boxes evaluated solely on aggregate performance metrics, we propose turning the question around: under which macroeconomic conditions would a given pipeline deliver a target funded ratio, produce well-diversified allocations across asset classes, or cause two competing models to diverge in their risk-adjusted outcomes? Using a sample dataset, this talk will showcase practical answers to these questions and offer an insight into AI-driven decision-making processes.

Insurance-Linked Securities – Combining Return and Diversification
Insurance-Linked Securities (ILS), including Catastrophe Bonds, can play a strategic role in a pension fund portfolio by enhancing diversification, improving risk-adjusted returns, and contributing to overall portfolio stability. Unlike traditional asset classes, ILS are primarily exposed to insurance risks such as natural catastrophes rather than economic or financial market factors. This results in low correlation to equities, credit, and interest rates, making ILS a powerful diversifier.
For pension funds with long-term liabilities, ILS can provide an attractive risk premium derived from the global reinsurance market. Returns are mainly driven by underwriting conditions and insured loss events, rather than macroeconomic cycles. This structural independence supports portfolio stability, particularly during periods of financial market stress.
In addition, following years with elevated catastrophe losses, spreads often widen, creating compelling opportunities for long-term investors. With improved liquidity, transparency, and risk modeling, ILS have become increasingly institutionalized. When carefully diversified across regions and perils, they can meaningfully enhance both return potential and stability within a pension portfolio.

Neem betere besluiten. Bescherm uw deelnemers.
